US Under Secretary of State Mr. William Burns calls on Minister of Health and Family Welfare Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad; discussions held for enhanced co-operation in health sector 

The proposed Regional Global Disease Detection Programme (GDDP) centre at New Delhi was discussed during the meeting of the Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mr. William Burns, the US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, here today. The US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC) and the Indian National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) are to collaborate to set up this proposed centre. 

Shri Azad, during the discussion expressed his happiness that bilateral co-operation in health and medicine is leading to infrastructure strengthening and transfer of technology. He also pointed out that that Indo-US collaboration had been successful in tuberculosis, cancer, maternal and child health and in HIV/AIDS. He also expressed India’s commitment to Polio eradication. Both sides expressed keenness for enhanced co-operation in the health sector.
