France welcome US-India nuke deal

Communique issued by M. Jacques Chirac concerning the nuclear cooperation between India and the United states
Paris
March 3, 2006

President Chirac welcomes the agreement sealed between the United States and India on the implementation of the joint statement of 18 July 2005. He sees in it a step forward for both the nuclear non-proliferation regime and the fight against climate warming. India's access to civilian nuclear technology is in particular essential to give India, a responsible power, the means to address her immense energy needs, while limiting her greenhouse gas emissions. This was also what motivated the conclusion by India and France of a civilian nuclear cooperation agreement
