All queries relating to services like passports, OCI Card, PIO Card and Miscellaneous services may be directed to phone number 202 939 9888
Please dial only this number for any consular/visa query from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm (EST). If the phone is continuously ringing it means the operator is busy as they  handle voluminous calls. So please keep trying.

Please apply only to Jurisdiction of Embassy of India, Washington, DC
(Bermuda, Delaware, District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia)

Note: Unlike earlier passports, new passports that are being issued now do not carry "ECNR" endorsement.

ONLINE APPLICATION FOR PASSPORT SERVICES

Application for all passport services should be filled up online. The second page after printing  should be manually filled up before sending the application form along with other documents to the Embassy.

"On-line filled up application can be mailed or submitted in person at the counter of the consular wing."

"Applicants are advised to submit their passport application on or around the appointment date which appears while filling up application on-line. It will take 10 to 15 working days to process the case after the appointment date."

Note: The
above time schedule does not apply to services where prior approval is required from authorities in India or any other Passport Issuing Authority other than the office where the application is made. In such cases, the processing time would be weeks/months.  Passport application must be submitted in person by the applicant or immediate family member of the applicant at the counter or directly through mail to the Embassy. Personal interview may be required.

Note: B1/B2 visa holders are temporary visitors to U.S. and therefore we cannot issue passport to them.

Applicants are requested to manually write their contact telephone nos (Home/Work/Cell phone nos) as well as the email addresses on the opening page (first page) of the printed online application form. This is required to contact an applicant either for a personal interview or for any other requirement if it arises.

In spite of the guidelines given to the applicant for filling up online application many applicants are not following it. Rather they are sending old application forms which were in vogue prior to February 2008.

Applications which are not filled online will not be processed and will be returned and the delay will be the responsibility of the applicant and mailing fees will be utilized in returning the application.

Please send two separate checks (certified check or Money Order only) One for the passport service and another one for mail service.
