Consular Counter Timings

For submission of documents:
9.30 am to 12.30 pm (Monday thru Friday) (Check Embassy Holidays)

Documents delivery:
4.30 pm to 5.30 pm (Monday thru Friday) (Check Embassy Holidays)

Visa & Misc. services are delivered normally on the same day except in cases where references are required to be made to other Missions or Offices in India. Indian Passports are processed and delivered normally on the next working day except in cases of renewal of a short validity passport and duplicate/damaged passport. Emergency Services: Visas are granted on Saturdays and Indian National Holidays (Check Embassy Holidays) to persons of Indian origin between 11am and 1pm in case of a genuine emergency like death or illness of a blood relation, subject to production of proof and confirmed air tickets. No other service is available on holidays. The decision of the Consular Officer in this matter shall be final

  • The embassy is not responsible for documents/applications lost in mail and there is no emergency service in cases where documents are sent in mail.
  • Outstation applicants may send their application forms to their respective Embassy/Consulates by mail.
  • The documents received by various categories of mail like FedEx, Airborne, Certified mail, Registered mail, Express mail , Regular mail etc are treated at par. Applicants must send documents by using a mailing service with acknowledgment/confirmation of delivery facilities.
  • Processing time for applications received by mail is normally 10 working / business days, after the receipt of the application form. Applicants are requested to refrain from making enquiries during this processing period. However, the name of applicant, zip code, telephone number and confirmed time and date of receipt of document/application at the Embassy will be needed to check status.

Return mail charges:
Please add the following charges in addition to the application fee for returning the documents.

EXPRESS MAIL: USD $15.00
PRIORITY MAIL: USD $7.00

Alternately, the applicant can also send an adequately stamped or pre-paid self-addressed envelope for returning documents in lieu of mailing charges.

  • For the applications sent in mail, Fee should be paid by Cashier's Check/Certified Check or Money Order made payable to the Embassy of India, Washington, DC.
  • Personal Checks/Credit Card/Cash are not accepted for Mailed-In applications.

Emergency Service

VISA
In case visa is applied for at the counter after 12.30 pm or on weekends and holidays, an emergency charge of USD $35 is levied for issue of visa on the same day. Emergency Services are granted on Saturdays and Indian National Holidays (Check Embassy Holidays) to persons of Indian origin only, between 11am and 1pm in case of a genuine emergency like death or illness of a blood relation, subject to production of proof and confirmed air ticket. This service is not available for visa applications sent in mail. You may wish to enquire from the concerned officer about arrangements for such emergency service. The decision of the Consular Officer in this matter shall be final.

PASSPORT / MISCELLANEOUS SERVICES
A passport can be issued on the same day, if deposited at the Consular Counter by paying additional USD $90 subject to the satisfaction of the Consular Officer only. This service is not available for passport applications/ documents sent in mail.

Note:
  • To avoid inconvenience applicants are requested to approach the Consular Wing with completed application and all necessary supporting documents.
